What is a Blog & how can it help me?

As promised here is the first fresh new post on the new blog. I thought I’d make the first post as useful as possible to you all and write about a question I regularly get asked - what is a blog and what can it do for my business?

If you didn’t know it already then you are looking at a blog that contains my thoughts and ramblings similar to a personal diary and that is exactly where the word blog comes from weB LOG. Think of it as an online diary that you write regularly to keep your customers and prospects up to date with whats happening to you and your business.

So how can an online diary possibly help your business? Who cares what you are doing or what you are thinking? Well if you haven’t noticed already, the internet is changing. People are creating and joining communities online and forging online relationships with their associates and whoever else they may meet online.

The main benefit of a Blog is that it means you can build relationships with your customers before you even meet them, but you need to undertsand what your customers want to hear about. Obviously the more relevant your blog posts are to your prospects, the stronger the relationships grow with your prospects and the more likely they are to contact you to make an enquiry.

In addition to this, you receive additional search engine benefits with Google, MSN and Yahoo! etc from regular postings and these are amplified even further if you understand the basics of search engine optimisation which you can find more infromation on on the main Evolution site.

Creating a blog like the one you are looking at at the moment is actually extremely easy and pretty much anyone can do it in about half an hour. I’m thinking of putting on a “Blog Intensive” workshop where I’ll work with a group to explain blogging in a bit more detail and then work with them to build their own blog - if you are interested leave a comment below and I’ll add up the numbers and schedule a date.
